St. Luke's Commissioned Icons

I am excited to share two new icons that were commissioned by St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Salisbury North Carolina. The Transfiguration and Pentecost. The icons are the biggest I have painted to date. ( 5 x 7 feet boards)
The basic design of each icon was based on the traditional Orthodox icons forms, however with the addition of the curved lance which is featured heavily in the architecture inside of the church.
In Transfiguration, Christ is usually painted in an all white robe, but instead we decided to represent not "Whiteness" but "Brightness" but implementing guided silver leaf over Christ's robes. As you move across the church the light shifts and glows beautifully.
With Pentecost we also deviated slightly seeking to represent the community of saints throughout time and place. All people seated together around the table, the eucharist and Mary the Mother of God at the center. The Holy Spirit in the form of a dove lighting the fire above the heads of those below.
I want to thank the people of St. Luke's, and the arts committee. And my friend Jeremiah Clark who made these lovely boards for both of the icons.
Both icons are available as Signed prints and Digital Downloads in our store.
